HR CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The job outlook for human resources professionals is projected to outperform other types of jobs in the coming years. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment in human resources will grow by approximately 22% between 2008 and 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations.* Human resources, training, and labor relations managers and specialists are employed in virtually every industry, with the private sector accounting for roughly 80% of salaried jobs.

Demand will be especially strong in specialty areas, including training and development; recruitment and placement; and compensation, benefits, and job analysis. Specialists account for three out of five positions; managers, two out of five. Human resources workers earn a median annual income of $42,000 to $82,000, depending on the specialization.

College graduates and those who have earned certification should have the best job opportunities. An advanced degree, such as the Master’s in Human Resources offered by The University of Scranton, is becoming increasingly important for human resource positions. In fact, the Bureau highly recommends advanced degrees for those seeking general and top management positions.
